John has been practicing law for over 21 years.  His practice emphasizes criminal and traffic defense, residential landlord-tenant law, and community association law, injury law, and estate planning.  He has appeared in state and federal courts across the Commonwealth, including the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Federal 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.  His broad experience has enabled him to develop proven, cost-effective legal strategies with each of his clients.

Since 2015, John has been serving as a representative on the Board of Directors for the Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society, which represents the interests of low-income families throughout the western part of the state.

In 2015 and 2016, John was awarded the Martindale Hubbell Client Distinction Award (Given to less than 1% of attorneys, recognized for excellence in quality of service, overall value, responsiveness, and communication ability)

John also served as the Director of the Office for Student Legal Services at Virginia Tech, where he provided advice, counsel, and representation to the entire undergraduate and graduate student body.   John’s experience as the director of that office gave him particular insight to the problems and concerns of the student population in the community.  He represents clients in all courts within the New River Valley and Roanoke, and he often provides advice and counsel to students who face conduct reviews for violations of student conduct policies before the Office of Student Conduct at Virginia Tech, and the Dean of Students at Radford University.  John also understands how devastating these matters can be to students and their families, and he is often available to meet with students and parents on an emergency basis after hours and on weekends.
